Our annual Distinguished Speaker Series returns with stops in our Northern Counties region on Tuesday the 17th and in the Dayton area on Wednesday the 18th.

The Wednesday night event in Dayton is hosted by Pastoral Region VII, and the speaker will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a dessert reception to follow.

OUR DISTINGUISHED SPEAKER: Robert Ellsberg has served for over thirty years as editor-in-chief and publisher of Orbis Books. From 1975 to 1980, he was part of the Catholic Worker community in New York City, and was the managing editor of The Catholic Worker from 1976 to 1978, a job that would introduce him to Dorothy Day and consequently would allow him to work with Day for the last five years of her life. This life-changing experience prompted him to convert to Catholicism.

Robert returned to Harvard and earned a degree in religion and literature, and later a Master’s in Theology from Harvard Divinity School.

Robert has edited Dorothy’s Selected Writings as well as The Duty of Delight: The Diaries of Dorothy Day and All the Way to Heaven: Selected Letters of Dorothy Day. He has served from its inception on the board of the Dorothy Day Guild, and was appointed to serve on the Historical Commission preparing her cause for canonization. He is the author of many award-winning books, including All Saints and Blessed Among Us. His most recent book is A Living Gospel: Reading God’s Story in Holy Lives.

This annual event is sponsored by Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley and the Catholic Social Action Office of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, with support from the Weavers of Justice and Fields of Justice.
